XLrator Media has released the first trailer for Jimi: All Is By My Side.

We have known that Andre 3000 would be portraying rock legend Jimi Hendrix on the big screen for some time, but footage and images from the film have been few and far between. We saw one clip of a performance sequence earlier this year, but even after the film’s initial festival premiere promotion (and word on distribution) was quiet. This week, finally, that changed when the first teaser trailer became available.

Most biopics focus on the entirety of someone’s life, or at least their career, but All Is By My Side focuses on a single year in Hendrix’s life when he went from being an unknown musician to one of the most recognizable faces in entertainment. It’s a confusing and exciting time that is wrought with emotional turmoil due to the changing nature of Jimi’s relationships. You can view the first trailer below:

The official synopsis reads:

OutKast’s André Benjamin stars as Jimi Hendrix in this revealing biopic from Academy Award-winning writer-director John Ridley (12 Years A Slave). Covering a year in Hendrix’s life from 1966-67 as an unknown backup guitarist playing New York’s Cheetah Club to making his mark in London’s music scene up until his Monterey Pop triumph, the film presents an intimate portrait of the sensitive young musician on the verge of becoming a rock legend.

Jimi: All Is By My Side will open on September 26.
