At the end of 2013 the world got a brief glimpse of Andre 3000 as Jimi Hendrix when a promotional photo for the film All Is By My Side began making the rounds online in time for the flick’s premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. 3K – real name Andre Benjamin – fit the part perfectly from a visual standpoint, and now we have our first look at his onscreen abilities.
The first clip from All Is By My Side can be found at the end of this post. The 90-second video features Andre as Jimi, in a dramatic moment with Linda Keith (Imogen Poots) during a conversation before he heads to Monterey. They exchange words, almost in a hushed tone, and for a few brief moments we see 3K showcase his emotional acting skills while “Can’t Seem to Make You Mine” by The Seeds plays in the background. It’s a fitting song for the scene, but you’ll have to watch to understand why.
There is no trailer for All Is By My Side, nor has the film announced a nationwide release date. Early reactions have called the film ‘strange’ and ‘extremely personal,’ while others say it simply has a ‘weird energy’ that some may or may not appreciate. We haven’t seen it ourselves, so we cannot comment yet, but it looks pretty good thus far.
